Rome, Italy – Two TikTok users recently shared a unique dining experience that might leave some people feeling a bit uneasy. While exploring the Italian capital, Kassidy and James stumbled upon a McDonald’s with a rather unusual feature: it’s built directly above an ancient Roman burial site.
In a viral TikTok video, Kassidy pointed out a transparent glass panel on the floor of the McDonald’s in Frattocchie, a town just outside of Rome. Looking down, viewers could see skeletons and other archaeological artifacts preserved beneath the fast-food restaurant.
The restaurant is located on a 2,000-year-old road that is believed to be connected to the Appian Way, one of the most important roads in ancient Rome. Construction workers discovered the burial site in 2014, and McDonald’s decided to incorporate it into the restaurant’s design.
While some might find the idea of dining above a necropolis unsettling, the restaurant has become a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can view the archaeological site through the glass panel or even take a guided tour.
Despite the unique setting, not everyone was thrilled with the choice to eat at a McDonald’s while in Rome. Many commenters expressed their surprise that the tourists would opt for a fast-food chain over the numerous authentic Italian restaurants in the city.
Whether you’re fascinated by history or simply looking for a unique dining experience, the McDonald’s in Frattocchie offers a truly one-of-a-kind opportunity.
