You’d think a friendly, giant baby doll would bring joy to a town, right? Well, not in Rochdale, England. A 27-foot-tall, blinking, moving monstrosity named Lilly has taken up residence in the town square, and residents are… let’s just say, not thrilled.
Some locals have described Lilly as “creepy,” “demonic,” and even a “plus-size Pinocchio.” One brave soul even compared her to the terrifying animatronic from the hit show “Squid Game.” Can you imagine running into that thing on your way to grab a coffee?
The town council, however, is singing a different tune. They’ve erected Lilly as part of a campaign to encourage school children to talk about the environment. Apparently, a giant, blinking creepy doll is the best way to teach kids about nature. Who knew?
While the kids seem to be enjoying Lilly, adults are more than a little spooked. One resident said, “I came around the corner and I thought, ‘It’s just creepy with its eyes shut, never mind open.'” We can’t say we blame them.
So, if you’re planning a trip to Rochdale, be warned: there’s a giant, creepy baby doll lurking in the town square. And if you happen to see her, we suggest running the other way.
